Harold is responsible for making sure all the computers and information systems at the Farm run as smoothly and reliably as possible, to further the mission of Shelburne Farms. He is also helping to chart the way forward by introducing new platforms and systems to make the Farm operation more flexible and efficient.
Originally from Eden, New York, Harold put himself through college working on a vegetable farm, and in a small local cheese factory. Armed with a BA in Philosophy from Hiram College in Ohio, and a commercial driver's license, he soon began a career building constructed wetlands in Canada, the UK, and the United States. Naturally this lead to him working on computers, and trading in his rubber boots for a laptop, he became first a computer technician, then a network administrator, and finally an IT consultant. Working for Shelburne Farms is the first time he can finally put all of his background to use simultaneously. He and his wife Il'ana live in North Hero, Vermont. In his spare time he enjoys gardening, landscaping, music, theater, travel, hiking, and the wilds of the internet.
