Position Title: Seasonal Tractor Shuttle Driver and Visitor Liaison
Supervisor: Children's Farmyard Manager
Employee Status: Seasonal, Part Time
Location: On-site (Farm Barn at Shelburne Farms: 1611 Harbor Rd, Shelburne, VT 05482)
Pay Rate: $17/hour
Employment dates: April 21, 2026 - October 18, 2026
Work Schedule: A minimum of two 4 hour shifts per week including weekends and holidays

Who We’re Looking for
We are seeking tractor shuttle drivers to safely transport farm visitors from the Welcome Center to the Farm Barn while creating a welcoming and informative experience for guests. As part of our visitor experience team, tractor shuttle drivers orient guests to the Farm Barn and the entirety of Shelburne Farms.
What You’ll Do
- Safely drive a tractor pulling two hitched wagons in tandem on a designated loop and schedule to shuttle visitors between the Welcome Center and the Farm Barn. Shifts are approximately 4 hours.
- Greet and assist all visitors in a warm, welcoming, and professional manner upholding excellent guest services at all times.
- Orient visitors to Shelburne Farms - its mission, programs, products, and campus.
- Kindly answer questions and address concerns that arise from visitors of all ages.
- Hear and respond to radio communication over running tractor while wearing a headset.
- Safely communicate information to the Welcome Center staff, farmyard staff, and other farm personnel via radio while operating the tractor.
- Lift and lower the bottom portion of stairs on each wagon at every shuttle stop.
- Keep tractor shuttle on its advertised schedule.
- Operate our battery powered wheelchair lift to safely load and unload passengers.
- Attend orientations, training, and meetings as required.
- Fuel the tractor with diesel fuel which requires hitching and unhitching the wagons from the tractor.
- Complete and keep up-to-date tractor maintenance logs and report any issues or concerns to the farmyard manager.
Core Qualifications
- Must have a valid driver’s license with the following requirements:
- No more than one at-fault accident, two minor moving violations, or two non-moving violations within the past year AND
- Zero major moving violations within the past seven years (examples: driving with suspended/invalid license, DUI, reckless driving, speed contests). No more than one major moving violation in the past 10 years.
- Complete the Shelburne Farms’ tractor shuttle training course. This training includes tractor operation, tractor safety, wheelchair lift operation, and opportunities to practice with a skilled driver.
- Ability to hear and respond to radio communication over running tractor while wearing a headset.
- Ability to maintain safe driving conditions for all farm visitors on the shuttle and along the walking trails.
- Ability to drive the shuttle while sharing the farm roads with other farm equipment, farm and personal vehicles, and walkers.
- Ability to lift and lower stairs on both wagons at every stop.
- Strong desire to work with a wide variety of visitors in a busy guest service setting.
- Positive, outgoing attitude.
- Willingness to receive feedback.
- Committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive working and learning environment for all program participants, guests, and staff.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification (training provided).
- Completed background check is a condition of employment.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Hear and respond to radio communication over running tractor while wearing a headset.
- Mount and dismount the tractor at every stop throughout your shift.
- Ability to rotate neck and body while driving tractor in order to monitor surroundings for safety.
- Comfortable working in an outdoor environment with varied weather conditions.
- Assist visitors in stepping up and down from the shuttle wagons, if needed.
