Position Title:  Farm Cart Line Cook        

Supervisor:  Executive Chef

Employee Status Seasonal, Full Time

Exemption: Non-Exempt, hourly

Location: On-site (99 Inn Road, Shelburne, VT 05482)

Salary Range:  $20 - $25/hour ($15 - $20/hour if living in free staff housing)

Start & End Date:  May 1st - October 31st (required onboarding & training beginning in late April)

Schedule: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm; Schedule is determined in advance and coordinated by manager

Farm Cart operates from 11am - 3pm however the schedule reflects food prep, set-up and break-down times. You will need to be available to work rotating weekends and holidays.

Occasional evening hours in July & August to support food at community events.

Housing: Free on-site housing available for this role however it may impact your base salary

Who We’re Looking for

As a Line Cook, working alongside a cashier at the Farm's Food Truck, you will share the food that we grow and raise at the Farm while helping to strengthen our local food systems by serving delicious lunch and snacks to visitors.

Our Farm Cart is centrally located at the Farm Barn, where visitors can engage in hands-on activities with our farm animals and gardeners at the Children’s Farmyard and observe our cheesemakers at the hub.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare and serve simple yet delicious, nutritious, and sustainably sourced lunches and snacks for visitors.
  • Utilize ingredients grown and raised on the farm, showcasing the farm's produce and products.
  • Support sustainable culinary practices, including reducing food waste, composting, and utilizing every part of an ingredient.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
  • Engage with visitors, sharing information about the farm's mission and sustainable food practices.
  • Support the Farm Food Functions Team in production of food at the inn.

 

Core Qualifications

  • Passion for preparing and sharing food items such as burgers, sandwiches and salads.
  • 3 years or more savory cooking experience.
  • Self motivated, team player with flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Excellent knife skills and extensive understanding of various cooking techniques
  • Inspired by the Farm’s mission, vision, core values and strategic plan.
  • Willingness to drive a farm vehicle to help transport food from the restaurant to the food truck (we will need to run a motor vehicle report if operating farm machinery or vehicles).

 

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • There are two steps leading up into the food truck and the walkway inside the cart approximately 3 feet wide. The space inside the food truck is usually shared by 2 - 3 employees.
  • The cart has a continuous fan operating to help with air circulation but there is no heating/cooling element besides the fans.
  • Carrying and moving inventory and trash, potentially moving items up/down stairs.
  • Carrying items weighing approximately 40 pounds.
  • Maintain a tidy shared workspace as defined by the cleaning checklist and training.
  • Working in varied weather conditions.
  • Working and moving over uneven terrain.
